Project brief

The project is set in a flat, sunny backyard adjacent to a golf course, which receives intense afternoon sun.

The client's goal was to reduce the size of the existing pool and reimagine the planter that separates the fire pit seating area from the main patio.

Design challenge

The role of the design was to create a relaxing environment that engages visitors and draws the eye seamlessly from one area to another, across an open and strongly sunlit site.

Design response

A mosaic tile pattern inspired by the distant mountains and the local landscape gives the planter a clear identity and ties the pool terrace to its wider setting. Selecting and working with the tiles was a new and exciting part of this project.

Synthetic turf was used to create a lush, green lawn that requires no watering or mowing, adding to the project's sustainability.

Special lighting features highlight key areas during the evening. Thoughtful placement around the fire pit and patio keeps the space functional and enchanting after sunset.
